Chocia\u017c projekt nowego warszawskiego gmachu pocztowego powsta\u0142 ju\u017c w 1902 r., to do jego realizacji przyst\u0105piono dopiero latem 1912 r. Stworzony przez architekta Antoniego Jab\u0142o\u0144skiego pierwotny projekt ostatecznie zmieniono, podwy\u017cszaj\u0105c budynek o kondygnacj\u0119, ale i redukuj\u0105c dekoracje elewacji. W konsekwencji powsta\u0142 gmach o fasadzie utrzymanej w duchu neorenesansu. Budynek sk\u0142ada\u0142 si\u0119 z czterech skrzyde\u0142 opasuj\u0105cych dziedziniec wewn\u0119trzny, kt\u00f3ry nakryto szklanym \u015bwietlikiem. Obiekt powsta\u0142 we wschodniej pierzei placu Wareckiego, w miejscu zajmowanym dawniej przez zabudow\u0119 nale\u017c\u0105c\u0105 do s\u0105siedniej kamienicy Mintera. Gmach zwie\u0144czy\u0142a grupa rze\u017abiarska przedstawiaj\u0105ca czterech umi\u0119\u015bnionych gigant\u00f3w d\u017awigaj\u0105cych glob ziemski. Charakterystyczna dekoracja przyci\u0105ga\u0142a uwag\u0119 przechodni\u00f3w. Wykonane w granicie postacie przywodzi\u0142y na my\u015bl podobne dekoracje z miast Imperium Rosyjskiego. Ostatecznie, zaledwie po kilku latach istnienia, w 1921 r. giganci zostali usuni\u0119ci, zbyt mocno kojarzyli si\u0119 z zaborc\u0105. Wcze\u015bniej, w sierpniu 1915 r., z fasady budynku zdj\u0119to dwug\u0142owe carskie or\u0142y. Nowoczesny gmach pe\u0142ni\u0142 swoj\u0105 funkcj\u0119 przez kolejne lata. Zniszczony podczas powstania warszawskiego budynek rozebrano po wojnie, tworz\u0105c miejsce pod budow\u0119 zespo\u0142u gmach\u00f3w Narodowego Banku Polskiego.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
