Towarzystwo Zach\u0119ty Sztuk Pi\u0119knych zosta\u0142o powo\u0142ane w 1860 r. W\u015br\u00f3d artyst\u00f3w skupionych wok\u00f3\u0142 instytucji byli m.in. Juliusz Kossak, J\u00f3zef Simmler, Karol Beyer czy Aleksander Lesser. Zanim Towarzystwo przenios\u0142o si\u0119 do w\u0142asnej siedziby, korzysta\u0142o m.in. z wn\u0119trz Hotelu Europejskiego oraz Resursy Obywatelskiej przy Krakowskim Przedmie\u015bciu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celem Towarzystwa by\u0142o wspieranie polskiej sztuki, pomoc m\u0142odym tw\u00f3rcom, organizowanie wystaw i tworzenie narodowej kolekcji sztuki. Budow\u0119 <\/a>w\u0142asnej siedziby, wed\u0142ug projektu Stefana Szyllera, rozpocz\u0119to w 1898 r. Gmach w stylu akademickiego renesansu w\u0142oskiego stan\u0105\u0142 na dzia\u0142ce s\u0105siaduj\u0105cej z ko\u015bcio\u0142em ewangelickim przy placu Ma\u0142achowskiego. Dziewi\u0119cioosiow\u0105 fasad\u0119 budynku o\u017cywia wsparty na dw\u00f3ch kolumnach wg\u0142\u0119bny portyk. Na fryzie umieszczono napis ARTIBUS (SZTUKOM), a w tympanonie frontonu \u2013 posta\u0107 uto\u017csamian\u0105 z Geniuszem Sztuki, opart\u0105 na g\u0142owie lwa. Grup\u0119 dope\u0142niaj\u0105 personifikacje Prawdy i Pi\u0119kna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unikatow\u0105 opraw\u0119 otrzyma\u0142y trzy okna pierwszego pi\u0119tra. Sztukatorskie dekoracje odnosz\u0105 si\u0119 do trzech wybitnych artyst\u00f3w XIX w.: Jana Matejki, Artura Grottgera i J\u00f3zefa Che\u0142mo\u0144skiego. Autorem dekoracji rze\u017abiarskich by\u0142 Zygmunt Otto. W przy\u0142uczach okien elewacji od strony placu umieszczono medaliony z profilami polskich artyst\u00f3w. Wej\u015bcie do gmachu poprzedzi\u0142y schody. Klatka schodowa urzeka bia\u0142ym marmurem, kt\u00f3rym pokryto stopnie schod\u00f3w, oraz misternym rysunkiem kutych balustrad, kt\u00f3rych dope\u0142nieniem s\u0105 kandelabry na marmurowych coko\u0142ach ustawionych na p\u00f3\u0142pi\u0119trach. Balustrady wykonano w Fabryce Wyrob\u00f3w \u017belaznych W\u0142adys\u0142awa Gosty\u0144skiego. Wystr\u00f3j sztukatorski wn\u0119trz gmachu zosta\u0142 zaprojektowany przez Szyllera i wykonany przez firm\u0119 Wac\u0142awa Silewicza. Naprzeciwko g\u0142\u00f3wnego wej\u015bcia znajduje si\u0119 rze\u017aba \u201eGladiator” Piusa Welo\u0144skiego, z 1892 r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ju\u017c w latach 1901-1903 gmach Zach\u0119ty rozbudowano od strony po\u0142udniowej. Ostatnia rozbudowa mia\u0142a miejsce w latach 80. i 90. XX w., kiedy to m.in. uzupe\u0142niono skrzyd\u0142o p\u00f3\u0142nocno-zachodnie oraz przed\u0142u\u017cono klatk\u0119 schodow\u0105 w holu g\u0142\u00f3wnym.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
